SUPER ROUGH SEAS // ART RECOVERY PROJECT

NORTHERN RIVERS, NSW, 2020-2021
THE SUPER ROUGH SEAS PROJECT an artist-led Community Recovery Art Project, that has brought together the community of the Northern Rivers stories and experiences of COVID-19 in a Street Art Story Montage. The work is a visual storytelling of our communities compounded lived experiences through the challenging times of COVID-19 as well as recent fires, drought and floods. Super Rough Seas explores our narratives around how we may all be in the same ocean during these challenging times but our boats are all different shapes and capacities.
A hundred community members from around the Northern Rivers contributed to the project, including regional artists, artists with disabilities and youth, with ages ranging from between 4 and 78 years of age. Community members were invited to submitted images of artworks created in 2020 around our compounded experiences throughout the pandemic, recent fires, droughts and floods. Then over the first month of 2021 community members participated in art workshops to create paintings of 'self-care boats' around what self-care tools we can take from our experiences of 2020 into the unknown waters of 2021 to keep our selves, families & communities strong.
The project has be supported by a Micro-Grant through Arts Northern Rivers.
